Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued eight persons kidnapped along Maganda-Sofo Birnin Gwari road in Kaduna State during a clearance patrol.
Our correspondent learnt that the hostages comprised of three men, two women and three children, who were abducted while travelling on the road.
According to the army, items recovered from the kidnappers were; one red Golf car, one trailer, and two boxes of clothes belonging to one of the passengers.
Our correspondent gathered that troops also moved to Nachibi village where they recovered a motorcycle abandoned by the bandits, who fled on sighting the troops.
Confirming the incident, the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Texas Chukwu, in a release on Monday, said efforts were ongoing to arrest fleeing bandits in the areas, urging the residents to continue to provide intelligence and information to the security agencies.
Chukwu said, “Troops deployed on Operation Idon Raini, on Saturday while on a clearance patrol along Maganda-Funtua road rescued eight hostages who were earlier kidnapped along Maganda-Sofo Birnin Gwari road.
“The hostages were three men, two women, and three children. Also, troops on patrol to Nachibi village recovered a motorcycle abandoned by the bandits on sighting the troops. In neighbouring Maidaro village, troops encountered bandits while they were rustling some cows. Three members of the vigilance group sustained gunshot injuries while one person was killed in action during the encounter.
“One motorcycle was recovered from the bandits. The residents are again reminded to be security conscious and report any suspicious movements to the law enforcement agents.”
