Son of a late Ooni of Ife, Oba
Adesoji Aderemi, Aderounmu Aderemi, has declared that the successor to the
departed Oba Okunade Sijuwade must not be a local player.
Aderemi, in an email to Sunday
Punch, insisted that the next Ooni had a big job at hand, noting that
successive Oonis had set the standards that Sijuwade’s successor must sustain
and develop on.
Aderemi said: “He should not be a
local player alone. He should be an international and national player. He
should add more values to the stool of Oduduwa by making Ife to become a great
city, if not the greatest in Nigeria.
“More importantly, I want the next
Ooni to open up more spaces for Ile-Ife by cultivating good relationship and
neighbourliness with the nations around it. We are in the era of information
technology in which case no nation, city, town and village could be on its own.
“The next Ooni should open his arms to embrace
all and spread progress and development to all the Ife neighbours, both far and
near. Ife should live peacefully by cultivating the people around it genuinely
without fear or favour.”
