LG Election: Ondo electoral commission to establish synergy with INEC


TOWARDS the conduct of local government election in Ondo State, the State Independent Electoral Commission, (ODIEC) on Thursday, said it would establish a synergy with the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to ensure a credible, free and fair election in the state.

The Commissioner in charge of Media and Publicity, Mr Rotimi Olorunfemi, who disclosed this in Akure, said that the management of ODIEC had met with INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Rufus Akeju to solicit support in ensuring a smooth election in the state.

According to him, ODIEC has solicited for operational support and strategies, geared towards proper electioneering process in order to sustain the nation’s democratic governance.

Also speaking,  the Chairman of the Commission, Prof Yomi Dinakin,  commended INEC for its innovative ideas of placing emphasis on the usage of electronic card readers and efforts towards an electronic voting system which is being tested run in some states of the federation.

Dinakin promised to compliment INEC efforts by ensuring that the local government election is conducted in line with best democratic practices in the world.

The  Resident Electoral Commissioner, (REC) Dr Rufus Akeju promised to work with the state electoral body in order to reshape the face of politics and electioneering in the state.

He said that INEC would provide available assistance to the electoral body to achieve its mandate of conducting the election in line with best practices in the world.
